My career has moved across software engineering, curriculum leadership, educational technology, AI research, and engineering education. The connecting thread is translation: helping people understand complex systems deeply enough to shape them with purpose.

A trajectory built across disciplines and audiences.

I began in computer science engineering, teaching programming, algorithms, software engineering, and process engineering while also working in curriculum design. That dual preparation taught me to see technical education as both a disciplinary challenge and a design challenge.

My doctoral work in Educational Technology deepened that perspective through research on engineering identity, participation, and career intentionality. At the University of Florida, I now teach graduate courses in artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, applied data science, and mathematical foundations while developing research and partnerships around AI literacy, Edge AI, microelectronics, community engagement, and engineering formation.

In 2026, I became Program Lead for Convergent Engineering Education Initiatives. The role gives me a department-level platform to connect emerging scholarship with curriculum, faculty development, institutional strategy, partnerships, credentials, and external engagement.

Professional timeline

2008

Computer Science Engineering

Graduated magna cum laude from Universidad Icesi and began teaching computing and engineering courses.

2011–2018

Curriculum and accreditation leadership

Led course and program redesign across engineering, design, business, and online graduate education, including CDIO-aligned work supporting ABET preparation.

2024

PhD and UF faculty appointment

Completed a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction–Educational Technology and joined UF Engineering Education as an Instructional Assistant Professor.

2025–2026

AI education leadership

Recognized as UF AI Educator of the Year, selected as an IEEE FIE New Faculty Fellow, and appointed to lead Convergent Engineering Education Initiatives.

Depth before novelty

New technologies matter only when learners understand the systems, assumptions, tradeoffs, and consequences beneath them.

Access with rigor

Accessibility is not simplification. It is the careful design of multiple entry points into demanding ideas.

Purpose and responsibility

Technical competence should expand learners’ capacity to serve communities, question systems, and make defensible decisions.
